Does The Tendency Of Americans To Believe Conspiracy Theories Make So Many Of Them Reject Evolution?
Many Americans believe that there is some secret government conspiracy behind almost everything that goes on in the US. They think that their government is trying to trick them into doing something and only they are smart enough to see it whilst the majority of other people are just sheep. Could this tendency to believe in conspiracy theories be making Americans think that evolution is part of some secret government conspiracy?

I don’t think that has much to do with it.
In my opinion it all dates back to the Scopes trial in 1926. Unlike the fictionalized film, in reality Scopes lost his trial – the creationists won. He was fined 100 dollars by the judge and the case went to appeal.
It’s likely he would have won his appeal but, as fate would have it, a judge isn’t allowed to set the fine – it’s the jury who does this. So the ruling was reversed and Scopes won, but on a technicality rather than because science trumps religion on matters like this.
So despite winning his case book publishers were still terrified to include the facts about evolution in high school texts for a couple of generations. And the church has had ample time to spread their creationist lies.
So America is kind of like North Korea, shielded from the outside world, many apparently unaware a man has walked on the moon. The rude awakening when/if they are allowed access to information from the rest of the world will be difficult, and many will refuse to believe such things are possible.
This is where many naive Americans find themselves. Never having been taught the truth, their minds polluted by the lies creationists have been repeating like a sick mantra, they lack the fundamental skill necessary to understand something the rest of the world and scientists everywhere take for granted as being true.
No, the New York Times believes conspiracy theories are behind everything, but only when a Republican is in office. Seeing as how America is probably the largest major nation with more than 70% of it’s citizens being affiliated with the Christian faith (and even more who are members of a different faith, but one that rejects evolution), it only makes sense that most Americans would reject the theory of evolution.
I think it is the same tendency. Most conspiracy theories, to the extent that they exist, are not really hidden, except in places like libraries and public records offices. people call them conspiraces and secrets because they are not willing to pick up a book and educate themselves. same thing with evolution. people are unwilling to do the reading and mental work, so they make snap justdgements based on hearsay and then act like they are some kind of authority on the subject. it’s pretty sad. I think it’s the same case with religion, too. so few people are truly willing to read, learn, and understand.
I too would like to see some stats on that before saying anything, but if this is true then I see them both as just symptoms of a low level of education. A tendency to see conspiracy theories everywhere has a demonstrable inverse correlation to the overall level of education in a country.
That’s probably because the American government has become so corrupt…and you usually only hear about conspiracy theories from the extremists. Obviously people who don’t believe in it don’t stand up and announce it.
And there are plenty of Americans who are scientists and evolutionists o_o
IF you Want To UnderStand “Truth”, then,
Read The Bible.
The Bible IS The Only Book that will “Tell YOU, “The Truth”.
But, there is a “Key” to UnderStanding “The Bible”.
See?
If you do not “Have the Key” to “The Bible”, then YOU or AnyBody Else, WILL NOT Be Able to—”UnderStand”, “The Truth”.
Hey shut up America is awsome…
And not many americans belive that, people do tend to come up with ideas, but that doesnt mean that everyone just follows that. Like with 9/11 conspiracies, most Americans dont really follow that.
Evolution is a lie perpetrated by the devil to deceive and confuse people into believing a lie rather than the truth of creation. By looking at all the atheists on here, he has been successful.
Really?
Where are your sources that ” Americans believe that there is some secret government conspiracy behind almost everything that goes on in the US”?
Evolution would prove there is a monkey in the government. They want to keep that quiet.
Many Americans are VERY slow… after all… they choosed George W. Bush TWICE!
Hadn’t heard that one before. Is it related to the moon is really a large spaceship one?
That is more than a bit of a stretch.
